Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Review

I went to see this movie on Thursday and I thoroughly enjoyed it to be honest. The trailer for it is here:

This is the sequel to the Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie that came out in 2011. The trailer for that one is here:

To be honest, I partly forgot some of the old movie, so I plan to re-watch that as soon as possible, but I didn’t forget the key parts.

The whole movie was very entertaining and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. From┬áthe way it was shot, to the quick turn of events that you never expect, you didn’t even feel the 130 minutes of quality cinematography.

The main character, Caesar played by Andy Serkis, doesn’t fail to bring the same level of performance that we first saw in the first movie and other characters that make a comeback feature: Maurice, Koba and Rocket.

The biggest impression that this movie left us was the way that humans still choose to behave, even in the face of a situation that definitely doesn’t call for that kind of behavior. Also, it seems that intelligence brings with itself violence.

Now, for people that haven’t seen the movie, I’ve covered the parts that could be considered spoilers, so if you don’t want to see them, don’t click below:

They filmed the entire movie by using special costumes that have motion tracking and a camera, attached to a helmet directly pointed at the actors face, to gather their expressions. The same technology was also used in the making of Avatar and will probably be used in many more films in the future.

If you want to see how that works, watch the following two videos, but note that they also contain spoilers:

Overall, I think I would give this movie an 8.5 out of 10 on my personal rating scale.
